MAGNIFICENT 1840 SCOTTISH SILVER MOUNTED HIGHLAND DIRK
Fine example of a traditional Scottish silver mounted dirk, hallmarked for 1840.
An extensively ornamental chiselled silver mounting with Scottish thistle and foliate decorations.
Silver hallmarks to each of the mounts. Solid blade with serrated back edge. The top of the main hilt and companion knife and fork applied with faceted cairngorms.
Gordon clan crests etched to the panels on the fronts of two middle mounts.
The silver mounting at the top of the fork handle appears to be a period replacement.
Leather on the scabbard is stained in some areas.
